Since earning accreditation as an Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institution (OPTI) by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in 2008, the Osteopathic Medical Network of Excellence in Education (OMNEE) has grown to include five colleges of osteopathic medicine and 26 health care facilities that have approval to operate over 50 residency programs with over 850 residency positions. Our affiliated residencies include those accredited by the AOA, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and dually accredited programs. The programs currently approved only by the AOA are actively pursuing accreditation by the ACGME.
OMNEE sponsored programs are located in Alabama, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Programs currently available within the consortium include dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, neurosurgical surgery, orthopedic surgery, and traditional rotating internship. Programs currently under development include general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and psychiatry. Fellowship opportunities also exist in gastroenterology, geriatrics, neuromuscular medicine, and sports medicine programs that provide opportunities train with Division 1 college athletes.

As an OPTI that includes multiple colleges of osteopathic medicine, OMNEE is able to provide significant support to the residency programs. Assistance provided by OMNEE includes access to simulation technology, faculty development, research support, curriculum, and guidance in meeting accreditation requirements.
